Minimum space for a golf simulator: the real limits
How small can you go? Here are the honest minimums for ceiling, width and depth — what still plays, what you give up, and the smallest build that's genuinely worth it.

Minimum vs comfortable
| Dimension | Comfortable | Workable minimum | Below this |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ceiling | 9–10 ft | 8.5 ft | under 8 ft → no full driver |
| Width | 11 ft+ | 10 ft (offset, single side) | under 9 ft → very tight |
| Depth | 16–18 ft | 12 ft (short-throw) | under 10 ft → net + data |
These minimums assume a single golfer, a floor launch monitor and an offset hitting position. Two-sided (right and left-handed) play needs more width. Full reference: golf simulator room size.
What you give up at the limit
- Driver under 8.5 ft: the first thing to go. Tall players feel it first.
- Ball flight feel: a shorter ball-to-screen distance means the image is closer; gameplay is identical, the room just feels tighter.
- Both-handed play: needs ~13 ft width — usually off the table at minimum width.
- Big projector image: shallow rooms use a short-throw and a smaller screen.
The smallest build that's still worth it
Even below full-swing minimums, a floor launch monitor into a net or short screen makes an excellent irons-and-short-game studio with full shot data. Plenty of serious practice — gapping, start-line, strike — happens in rooms too small for driver. Treat the constraint as a focus, not a failure.

FAQ
- What is the minimum space for a golf simulator?
- Roughly 8.5 ft ceiling × 10 ft width × 12 ft depth for a single golfer with a floor launch monitor. Smaller works for irons + data only.
- What is the smallest ceiling height?
- ~8.5 ft for a full swing for most players; under 8 ft is chipping, putting and data — no full driver.
- Can I use a sim in a very small room?
- Yes — a floor launch monitor into a net makes a genuine data and short-game studio, even without room for driver.
