Best golf launch monitors for a home simulator
The launch monitor is the heart of any home simulator — it reads your shot and drives the software. Here's how to choose, by budget and by the room you actually have.

First, two technologies
Launch monitors read your shot in one of two ways. Radar (Doppler) tracks the ball in flight and works best with some distance to "see" the ball travel. Photometric (camera) photographs the ball and club at impact and sits beside the ball — which makes it the easier fit for tight indoor rooms. Full explainer: photometric vs radar.
The shortlist by budget
| Unit | Tech | Approx. price | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Garmin Approach R10 | Radar | ~$600 | Budget / data-first starters |
| FlightScope Mevo+ | Radar | ~$2,000 | Portable all-rounder |
| SkyTrak+ | Photometric + radar | ~$3,000 | The default home pick |
| Bushnell Launch Pro | Photometric | ~$3,500–4,000 | Accuracy on a budget-premium |
| Foresight GC3 | Photometric | ~$7,000 | Premium accuracy |
Match it to your room, not just your wallet
The biggest practical filter is your space. In a low or shallow room, a floor/behind-the-ball unit is almost mandatory — anything ceiling-mounted is out. Radar units also like a little more depth to read ball flight, so in very shallow rooms a photometric unit beside the ball is the cleaner fit.
- Low ceiling (8–9 ft): SkyTrak+, Bushnell Launch Pro, Garmin R10 — all floor units. See low-ceiling picks.
- Very shallow depth: favour photometric (SkyTrak+, Bushnell Launch Pro) over radar.
- Comfortable, tall room: anything, including overhead units like the Uneekor EYE XO.
